Group Delta, an NV5 Company, provided on-site laboratory for materials testing and inspection services for the San Vicente Dam Raise, a San Diego County Water Authority Emergency Storage Project. The dam raise increased the height by 117-feet, making it the tallest dam raise in the United States. The project more than doubled the capacity with an additional 152,000-acre-feet. The dam originally stood at 220-feet and stored up to 90,000-acre-feet of water.
Our team also provided laboratory and field testing for on-site crushing of 1.1-million-tons of mass aggregate and compaction testing of 650,000-cubic-yards of roller compacted concrete. Crews worked around the clock for six months, seven days/week, for placement of RCC.
Added Value
- Extensive On-Site Materials Testing: Our team provided continuous on-site laboratory services for materials testing and inspection, ensuring quality control throughout the dam raise—the tallest in U.S. history.
- High-Volume Aggregate and RCC Support: Our team delivered laboratory and field testing for 1.1 million tons of on-site crushed aggregate and compaction testing for 650,000 cubic yards of roller-compacted concrete, supporting around-the-clock construction over six months.
- Critical Role in Historic Infrastructure Expansion: Our team enabled successful execution of a 117-foot dam raise that more than doubled reservoir capacity, contributing to regional water security and emergency preparedness.
