WATER / WASTEWATER

Smith Canal Gate

The Smith Canal Gate project includes the construction of a cellular sheet pile cofferdam flood control gate structure to be constructed with PS31 flat sheet piles. Group Delta, an NV5 Company, evaluated the ability of the preferred hammers by the contractor to drive the piles to the tip elevations with tolerable driving stresses. The scope of work included review of the existing information and geotechnical data, estimating range of nominal driving resistances, performing GRLWEP drivability analyses, evaluating the driving stresses and preparing our findings in a memorandum. Our team also provided consultation during construction to address constructibility issues.

 Added Value

  • Expert Drivability Analysis: Our team conducted GRLWEAP drivability analyses to ensure the contractor’s preferred hammers could drive PS31 sheet piles to the required tip elevations without exceeding tolerable driving stresses.
  • Comprehensive Geotechnical Review: Our team reviewed existing geotechnical data, estimated nominal driving resistances, and evaluated driving stresses, culminated in a detailed technical memorandum to support construction planning.
  • Ongoing Construction Support: Our team continues to provide consultation during construction, proactively addressing constructability challenges and ensuring smooth project execution.
