Group Delta Consultants has performed geotechnical studies and provided recommendations for a number of high-rise/ mid-rise buildings and hotels in Southern California. We have extensive knowledge of the local soil conditions and the geotechnical issues involved in major construction projects and have a demonstrable track record of working with developers and structural engineers to select the most cost effective foundation system while minimizing construction problems, claims, and total foundation costs.

Block 8 / Sakura Crossing, Little Tokyo

Sakura Crossing is the Related Companies first development to be completed on the six acre site formerly known as Block 8. The complex is a six-story structure with 230 apartments including 20% set aside for affordable housing. The Related Companies also plan on building a 22-story tower housing 240 condominiums and retail space in Parcel 'D' north of Sakura Crossing. The property known as Block 8 in Little Tokyo was a parking lot south of Second Street between Los Angeles and San Pedro Streets in downtown Los Angeles. Group Delta Consultants completed a foundation investigation to provide design level recommendations for:

  • Bearing capacity and settlement estimates for the mat foundations supporting 22-story tower
  • Differential settlement between the high rise and low rise buildings.
  • Seismic Design both based on UBC 1997 seismic provisions and site specific response spectra

  • Construction Phasing for five different portions of the project built at different times by two or three owners

Group Delta also provided soil and materials testing during construction of the six story Sakura Crossing Apartments which was completed in 2009.

Anaheim Crowne Plaza Resort

The Anaheim Crowne Plaza Resort offers 384 guestrooms on a seven acre development consisting of a nine-story hotel building, a pool area, and paved parking areas. As part of our comprehensive geotechnical design level services, Group Delta Consultants performed engineering analyses of field and laboratory data to develop recommendations concerning representative soil parameters, seismic hazards including liquefaction assessment and site period, site preparation and grading, shallow foundations, settlements, pile foundations, lateral earth pressures, retaining walls, corrosivity, and pavement design.

Project Highlights :

  • A total of 328 piles were successfully driven to the design capacity
  • GDC provided on-time and within-budget services during both the design and construction phase.

Doubletree Hotel Irvine Spectrum

The Doubletree Hotel at the Irvine Spectrum is an eight story building that includes 252 guest rooms, an outdoor swimming pool and two story parking structure. 

Project Highlights :

  • Performed wave equation analyses on the hammer and driving equipment
  • Developed an indicator pile program
  • Mobilized a PDA subcontractor, to make dynamic measurements on 10 indicator piles
  • Our recommendations resulted in savings of over $200,000 dollars in pile foundation costs

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa

The Hyatt Regency Resort project in Huntington Beach consisted of a 517-room hotel complex including 2-levels of subterranean parking, a four-story hotel building, ballrooms, conference rooms, courtyards, retail facilities, tennis courts, landscaping and irrigation, walkways, a pedestrian bridge, and retaining walls.

Project Highlights :

  • GDC recommended a surcharge program at the site to consolidate soft clayey soils. The surcharge was successfully completed and the number of piles needed was reduced from over 2,700 to about 500.
Group Delta's recommendations resulted in savings of over $1 Million dollars in pile foundation costs.
